Hypo-allergenic
Alpaca is the only wool fibre in the world that does not contain lanolin. Lanolin is often seen in many other types of wool and is the source of wool allergies. This means that if one has an allergy towards wool it is actually an allergic reaction towards the lanolin in the wool - therefore one can use textiles manufactured from alpaca wool without need for concern.
In addition, many people experience a skin irritation when in contact with sheeps wool, for instance. The fibres of the sheep wool stimulate the nerve centres in the skin causing uneasiness and itching. Some may even experience redening of the skin. This is often thought to be an allergic reaction to wool, however wool from the alpaca kid is soft and fine and does not cause skin irritation. This means than one who has an allergic reaction towards wool can easily benefit from textiles woven from alpaca wool.
